| What does it say about me that: 1. I rediscovered my love of Star Trek. 2. Voyager is still my favorite. 3. My favorite episode is the one where Captain Janeway falls in love, is betrayed, but it all works about because she never really trusted him anyway. My answers: 1. I'm a nerd, and not just a minor one. 2. I don't fit in with the other Trekkie nerds. 3. I have serious relationship issues. | | |
| The good Work was amazing. Sure, all I really did today was make intake appointments, but it gave me a taste of what I'm going to do this summer. I have 3 cases to work on, for now. Case 1 is me (and the real lawyers of course) taking it to some slimeballs who tried to trick an old lady out of her home. It was one of those nasty "we can save your home from forclosure" schemes that totally ripped the woman off. Case 2 is me trying to keep a family of burmese immigrants in their rental property and case 3 is me trying to get some lady's landlord to actually fix all of her problems. Good times. Oh, and Little Man is playing at bouncing in and out of the cat carrier like it's the best toy ever. It's always better when the kitties love the carriers. The Bad I don't think I'll be able to get my new car this month like I was hoping...maybe not even this summer, and if I do it probably won't be a Prius like I was hoping because... The UGLY I spent 2.5 hours at the emergency vet with Tin, and $260. She's lost her balance and has been having trouble sitting and walking (especially when she shakes her head). She had a bunch of blood work done (results for 1 test should come tomorrow, results for another should be within the next 2 weeks). She's on 3 medications because they really don't know what it is and since she's FeLV positive we need to treat every possibility aggressively because her immune system can't clear it out on its own. The best case senario would be an inner ear infection (hence the liquid meds and the ear drops I'm picking up from my own vet tomorrow) The, shall we say, "middle" level problem would be hyperthyroidism which would probably mean medication for the rest of her life. The worst case senario is that the FeLV has progressed to her brain and has caused a brain tumor, which wouldn't really be treatable. Steroids might shrink it somewhat if it's a tumor and they might also held with an ear infection. On the bright side, 2 out of the 3 options are perfectly treatable, if expensive. Also, Tin is the bell of the vet clinic, everyone commented on how gorgeous and well behaved she is. Really, it doesn't get better than Tin's behavior at the vet, just lies on the table, calm as ever. She even starts purring if I wrap her in a tight hug while waiting for the doctor. How many cats purr at the vet? Also even though we had to go up to the emergency clinic since it was after hours, I was able to see my regular vet. After the first Dr. took a look at her, Dr. Stewart happened to stop by to pick up something and they mentioned that Tin was in the exam room, so Dr. Stewart stopped in. Good thing too, because Dr. Stewart, knowing Tin's medical history better than the emergency vet noticed that Tin's heart rate was way up and thought it could be a sign of hyperthyroidism...which was nice because this was about 10 minutes after I got the "might be a brain tumor" news and anything is better than brain tumor. Ahh well, expensive kitty. So long story short, I budgeted $300 for vet bills for the summer (which would have covered the FeLV retests and left about $150 of "slush" money) and Tin went and blew that in one day. | | |
| So, I came home from school yesterday (10pm) and looked in my fridge only to find my box of ice-cream sitting there. Whoops, clearly was brain dead the previous night when putting that away. On the plus side, I found stirring my ice-cream every 15 minutes or so as it refroze to be a perfectly acceptable form of procrastination. Yum free bagel and apple juice this morning and I brought a good amount of food to school with me today: one of those giant boxes of gold fish crackers, 2 boxes of hot pockets (we have a freezer here) and a box of breakfast bars. This doesn't include the pizza and cupcakes that I had already stashed in the fridge. Now I just need a tooth brush and PJs and I'll have officially moved in. | | |
| I'm just really sick of every thing ending up dead in a hole in the ground. How about this one Death: you leave me and mine alone and I'll stop making snide comments about you behind your back.

| The HoneyCrisp (widely avalible at Eastern Market, for those in DC right now). Best. Apple. Ever. Seriously. Sweet, crisp, juicy, perfection. They have them at Kroger right now. They cost an arm and a leg. Totally worth it. I finally found out why the fabulousness. They were first developed at U of M (in my opinion, there is only one of these...some might disagree; they're morons.) They were released to the public in 1991. This is the first year that Kroger in C-ville is carrying them. People in the supermarket probably thought I was crazy because I was rather enthusiastic about spotting them in the store. Actually, this is how I know it's the first year Kroger is selling them. An employee came over and was like "wow, you like your apples." I told her how fabulous they were. She hadn't had one. She tried one. Her response was similar to mine. Yes, they're that good. I'm thinking about trying to grow them from seeds. Except I don't have a yard. Mary bought a house Mary needs to plant a honeycrisp tree. The End. | | |
